Sunset Seminar: Compostable, Fish-Friendly Packaging
July 14 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
CEO Ariadne Dimoula and CFO Claudia Lowd, co-founders of Paramount Planet Product, will discuss their mission of creating ocean-compostable, fish-friendly packaging made in safe clean mills at 7:00 pm Wednesday, July 14, at Camden Yacht Club and via livestream.
Dimoula and Lowd’s presentation will feature how they are working to make tree-based-material products that function like current plastic products but, unlike plastic, degrade in ocean water and serve as food for ocean fish. They will also describe how they are working to rehabilitate older pulp and paper industrial processes into processes where the waste or byproduct of one process is used as input into another process.
Dimoula is a graduate of The University of Maine, holding a BA in International Affairs and a BS in Marine Science. As an oceanographer, she is highly skilled in scientific project management and coordinating applied technological advancement through facilitating on time deliverables.
Lowd has a passion for trees and for making paper. Starting as a UMaine Forester in 1977, she didn’t see many trees planted on the forest land that the paper mills owned, so she walked across UMaine Orono’s campus and became a chemical engineer, focused on paper making. She graduated from Western Michigan University as a pulp and paper engineer.
Paramount Planet Product recently won a National Science Foundation Phase 1 Small Business Technology Transfer Grant. The company plans to open their first plant using circular design and cooperative ownership models in 2022. The mill’s first product will feature non-plastic better-for-the-earth drink lids.
