Youth Sailing Information

Welcome to CAYSP, the Camden Area Youth Seamanship Program, and the 2020 season. Thank you for your interest in CAYSP, located in mid-coast Maine—Camden harbor. We are a non-profit organization committed to our mission statement: To provide sailing lessons to all young people, regardless of their ability to pay. We are gearing up for another fantastic summer, you are welcome with open arms and we hope you will join us!

Over the past few years, CAYSP has been focused on developing a strong community. There are a variety of class options to chose from as well as CAYSP events, parties and activities that pull our community together at a deeper level.

Please refer to the 2020 CAYSP CLASSES tab on this website for more specifics on class curriculum and ages.

New Classes for 2020
As we continue to meet the needs of our students we are adding a few new classes and revising others for the 2020 season. In the mornings, the very popular Scuppers class will add a day of sailing to the curriculum as well as drop the number of participants to five students per session. The Girls Leadership class, also a class that fills very quickly, balances land and sea activities. The 420 Sailing class is for students who are ready to move into and get an orientation to the 420. For an afternoon option, a brand new class, Expedition Sailing (ages 11–13), is for the student with basic sailing knowledge and who does NOT want to race. Long-distance sails and environmental awareness are at the heart of this class.

We will have our traditional offerings—Beginning Sailing, Solo Sailing, Ocean Explorers, and the afternoon race classes for Optimist and 420 racers throughout the summer. Please check the registration form for dates and schedule.

There are several annual CAYSP “holidays” that are offered to your sailor during class weeks. The schedule of these holidays will be determined in June and posted on the calendar at the classroom door. Holidays include Tropical Island Day, Pirate Day, Plastic Awareness Day, and 2 In-house Optimist regattas.

CAYSP dates for the 2020 season begin June 22 and end August 14. Registration is open. To enroll please download the 2020 Registration Packet (Registration, Medical and Indemnity forms as well as Scholarship form if needed) and mail with FULL payment to:

Once we receive your forms and payment we will hold your rower and/or sailor a spot in the class. You will then receive a confirmation via email within a few weeks. If the class is full you will be placed on a waiting list. Many of our classes fill quickly so please register early.

The CAYSP mission of a commitment to educating young people, regardless of their ability to pay, supports our confidential scholarship program. If this is a need you have, please take advantage and download the Scholarship Form and mail with the registration packet.

For families who are new to CAYSP, there is an optional orientation night to be held in the CAYSP classroom (Camden Yacht Club, 68 Bayview Street, Camden) on Thursday, June 18 at 5:00. You will meet some of the 2020 instructors, hear an overview of the program, see the facility and have the time to ask any questions you may have.

If this date does not work and you have concerns or questions please email Sue Conover at
