Youth Sailing Information

Welcome to CAYSP, Camden Area Youth Seamanship Program, and our 2019 season. We are gearing up for another fantastic summer and we hope you will join us!

Over the past few years, CAYSP has been focused on developing a strong community. In addition to plenty of class options to meet your child’s needs, there are events and activities that you will want to be a part of for the upcoming summer season.

As we continue to meet the needs of our students we are making a few changes with the AM classes again for this year. We will be offering Solo Sailors (ages 11–13), a morning class for advanced–intermediate Opti sailors. Secondly, the Green Fleet 420 Race Team will meet in the mornings. Please refer to the class description page to read about these exciting changes. In addition, all afternoon classes are race classes. Students sailing in the afternoon, depending on their skill and comfort level, will have the opportunity to travel to regattas statewide. All afternoon classes will have a weekly race day where we will be racing either locally in Camden, or further away within the state of Maine.

In addition, Ocean Explorers will offer 4 weeks, for ages 8–12. Please refer to the class description section for dates and curriculum.

We hope you will join us and become part of our boating community!

CAYSP rowing and sailing classes begin June 24 and continue through August 9. Registration will begin mid March. To enroll please download the 2019 Registration Packet (Registration, Medical and Indemnity forms as well as Scholarship if needed) and mail with FULL payment to:

Once we receive your forms and payment we will hold your rower and/or sailor a spot in the class. You will then receive a confirmation via email within a few weeks. If the class is full you will be placed on a waiting list. Many of our classes fill quickly so please register early.

The CAYSP mission of a commitment to educating young people, regardless of their ability to pay, supports our confidential scholarship program. If this is a need you have, please download the Scholarship Form and mail with the registration packet.

For families who are new to CAYSP, there is an optional orientation night to be held in the CAYSP classroom (Camden Yacht Club, 68 Bayview Street, Camden) on Thursday, June 20 at 5:00. You will meet some of the 2019 instructors, hear an overview of the program, see the facility and have the time to ask any questions you may have. If this date does not work for you and you have concerns or questions please email

Please participate in our community building CAYSP holidays: We will host our annual 4th of July boat parade (need to be enrolled in that week’s class to be on the water) , the 4th annual Flatbread dinner Tuesday July 16, the Northeast Regional Junior Olympics July 17 & 18 (need to be enrolled in class for that week to be in the regatta) , the Mid-Summer Dance Party Thursday July 25, the ever-popular pirate day (need to be enrolled in class for that week to be on the water) and the CAYSP Awards Night. These dates will be posted mid-June on the calendar outside the classroom and here on the CYC web site.
