The 2017 season will be Sue’s 10th year directing CAYSP. Sue has deep roots at the Camden Yacht Club, learning to sail and then teaching here through her teenage years. She then went on to work for the Hurricane Island Outward Bound Sailing School for several years. She now balances her love of the harbor and sailing in the summers with working at a local school. She is very excited about another fabulous year.
Zoe began sailing at Camden Yacht Club when she was 8 years old in the beginning sailing program. Since then, she has attended many regattas in Optis and 420s. Zoe is now a member of the CAYSP 420 race team, was on the high school sailing team since she was in 7th grade. This year will be Zoe’s 6th year working as a sailing instructor, and she can not wait for another fun filled season. Other than being on the water, Zoe enjoys mountain biking, and skiing competitively during the school year.
Ella has been sailing since she was 8 years old. Over the years, she has sailed her way through the beginners class all the way up to the 420 race team. Since 7th grade, Ella has sailed on the high school spring sailing team because she can’t get enough time on the water or in the sun. This will be her 6th summer teaching sailing and she can’t wait for another exciting season to begin. When she’s not sailing, you can find Ella rowing on Megunticook Lake, painting murals, or skiing all over Maine.
Peter has sailed for 11 years, competed on the high school sailing team during the fall and spring since 8th grade, and has taught sailing at CAYSP for 4 years. He enjoys any time spent in or around the ocean. His interests other than sailing include biking, playing the violin, contra dancing, learning physics, eating ice cream, and tinkering with stuff. He is excited for next summer!
Jillian lives in Hope. This will be her 5th summer teaching at CYC. Jillian began sailing in Rockport when she was 8, and she loves the ocean more than anything else. This summer, Jillian will be teaching classes in the mornings and will also sail on the 420 race team in the afternoon. When she is not on the ocean, Jillian enjoys spending time with her family, rowing, skiing, swimming, playing music, reading, and being outside. She is excited to spend another wonderful summer on the water!
Warren has been sailing since he was 8, and has been racing for 7 years, including experience on the high school 420 racing team in the fall and spring for 8 seasons. He has enjoyed every minute of it. When not sailing, he enjoys being outside, i.e: running, biking, skiing, and taking cool swims in the ocean. His indoor activities include music, math, and reading. He loves teaching sailing and rowing and can’t wait to spend time with your kids this summer!
Simon will be a senior at the Camden Hills Regional High School. He lives on Penobscot Bay, where he has sailed his whole life. He started sailing at CYC at age 7 and has sailed every summer since. When he is not on the ocean he can be found in the outdoors. He looks forward to teaching for another summer at CYC as well as racing in as many sailing regattas as possible this summer.
Samantha is 18 years old and has been sailing at the Yacht Club since she was 8. This will be Samantha’s 5th year as an apprentice at CAYSP. She teaches in the morning and races 420s in the afternoon. Samantha lives in Rockport, and enjoys soccer, ski racing, and lacrosse. She is looking forward to a wonderful summer of 2019 at CAYSP!
Cedar is coming back this summer for his 5th year as an instructor. Cedar grew up in Camden harbor, care-taking the lighthouse with his family. In doing so he was exposed to many different weather and boat situations. He has been sailing here his whole life and loves inspiring others to do the same. Cedar loves working with kids and is looking forward to another summer of teaching.
2019 will be my 5th year as an instructor and 11th year in the CAYSP/CYC sailing program, where I started when I was 6. I live in Virginia. I have been racing for 6 or 7 years now, and I have a love for teaching children and sailing, so nothing is better than the two together!
Hugh Levitt is 19 and coming back to CAYSP for his 6th year of instructing. He has been sailing for 10 years at both CAYSP and LYC, where he began his sailing career. Hugh will teach sail in the morning and sail 420s on the race team in the afternoon. If he is not on the water he likes to be on the move outside. Hugh is excited to be coming back to CYC for another wonderful summer.
