Dockmaster

Camden Yacht Club is seeking an experienced and dependable Dockmaster to manage waterfront operations for the club and its 280+ members. This is a salaried, seasonal position, with competitive pay and year-end bonus. In addition to operating the club’s launch, the Dockmaster oversees the recruiting, hiring and scheduling of additional launch drivers, manages mooring and float rentals, coordinates dingy slots for club members, and assists with races and other waterfront events.  Employment consists of 26 weeks, normally including 24 weeks from May 1 to Oct 15, and 2 weeks/80 hours off-season for scheduling, hiring, and administrative work. During the period from mid-June to Labor Day, a time commitment of not less than forty hours per five/six-day work week is anticipated. All CYC staff need to be resilient, objective, cooperative, flexible, pleasant, and polite. Above all, the safety of all individuals on Camden Yacht Club grounds is essential.

JOB REQUIREMENTS & KNOWLEDGE

  • Current and valid US Coast Guard Launch Operators License.
  • Minimum three years’ experience operating powerboats and vessel handling ability as required to operate CYC vessels in carrying passengers, conduct light towing and tending moorings.
  • Knowledge of mooring systems for various sized vessels in varying inclement weather conditions.
  • Basic computer skills.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Launch Service:  Ensure coverage for scheduled launch service during operating hours. Hire, train, schedule and supervise launch drivers to assure that they are fully knowledgeable, trained, equipped and capable of providing safe and efficient launch service.
  • Regulatory Compliance:  Act as a Designated Employee Representative (DER) toward fulfilling CYC compliance with USCG regulations regarding licensing and drug testing.
  • Docks, Floats, and Moorings: Assist members and transient yachtsmen on the docks. Assign and monitor dinghy spaces.  Maintain and supervise float and mooring reservations, income, ice sales, and required record keeping.
  • Events: Coordinate with Fleet Captain regarding races days and other on-water events.
  • Off-Season Administrative Duties: Recruit and hire launch drivers for the upcoming season, manage rental scheduling, provide departmental budget reports, stay abreast of USCG requirements and deadlines.

Youth Sailing Senior Racing Instructor

CAYSP is looking for US Sailing Small Boat Instructors Level 2 or higher with prior teaching and racing experience to teach optimist and 420 racing.

Desired skills and experience include:

  • Current First Aid and CPR certifications
  • The ability to operate a motor boat safely, and ideally to drive and operate a boat trailer
  • Excellent communication and teaching skills
  • A passion for sailing and working with children
  • Maturity and responsibility
  • Availability mid-June to mid-August, Mon – Fri

First-year instructors with US Sailing Level 1 certification prior to June 2021 will be considered.

Youth Sailing Land & Sea Adventure Instructor

CAYSP is looking for one or two instructors to develop and teach a series of Land & Sea Adventure day courses throughout the summer months in and around the Camden area. Expectation of this program is to offer 4 to 6, one week courses between July 1 and Sept each summer.

Desired skills and experience include:

  • Experience leading and designing adventure based youth courses in a marine setting
  • Excellent communication and teaching skills
  • A passion for adventure, education and working with children
  • Maturity and responsibility
  • Inclusion of a STEM component a plus
  • Knowledge of Penobscot Bay a plus
  • USCG 6-pack operator’s license
  • Current First Aid and CPR certifications
  • Availability mid-June to mid-August, Mon – Fri

Launch Drivers

Camden Yacht Club is seeking launch drivers for the 2021 season. Applicants must be at least 18 years old with current USCG Limited Masters License and First Aid/CPR certification. This is a seasonal position with competitive pay and a year-end bonus. Full-time or part-time availability is acceptable. Our season typically runs from late May through early October. All CYC staff need to be resilient, objective, cooperative, flexible, pleasant, and polite. Above all, the safety of all individuals on Camden Yacht Club grounds is essential.

Responsibilities:

  • Operate the CYC 18′ launch between the club and member boats in Camden harbor
  • Greeting members and guests
  • Booking reservations for floats and moorings
  • Tying up boats
  • Help maintain our facilities and grounds

Lunch Hosts

Camden Yacht Club is looking for two friendly and responsible hosts to share the management of lunch shifts Monday through Saturday during the summer season. Prior work experience and driving ability is required. Training will be provided.

Responsibilities:

  • Create and maintain weekly schedule of lunch servers
  • Coordinate with Chef on menu and specials each day
  • Train lunch servers
  • Assure all supplies are stocked before each shift
  • Drop off and/or pick up linens from laundry service
  • Print menus and order slips
  • Enter orders into Vend system and close out the daily shift

Lunch Servers

Camden Yacht Club is looking for a few friendly and dependable “runners” to help serve lunch to our club members Monday through Saturday during the summer season. Servers may choose between three and six shifts per week, and work hours generally span from 10am to 3pm.

Responsibilities:

  • Set up and break down dining tables
  • Serve lunches
  • Clean up between seatings
  • Set up seating for Sunset Seminars each Wednesday
