Youth Sailing Program Director 

The Camden Area Youth Sailing Program (CAYSP), a nonprofit organization operating under the Camden Yacht Club, is looking for a Sailing Program Director. This is a full-time, seasonal, 10-week position from early June through mid-August running an 8-week youth sailing program with part-time off-season responsibilities. The sailing program is open to the public. The CAYSP Program Director will organize and oversee all aspects of the summer youth sailing and racing program, including Optis, 420s, and other water-based programs.

Core responsibilities include:

  • Hiring, training, and supervising sailing instructors,
  • Program safety and compliance with US Sailing practices
  • Overseeing and participating in:
    • Curriculum development
    • Student registration and communications
    • On-the-water and shore side teaching and mentoring
    • Fleet management and maintenance

Desired skills and experience include:

  • Experience instructing sailing, sailboat racing and running a youth sailing program
  • Passion and experience working with children
  • Good communication skills
  • Supervisory and team management experience
  • Budgeting, marketing, and fundraising experience
  • Working knowledge of US Sailing educational practices and policies
  • Coast Guard license and small boat handling certifications
  • Current CPR and First Aid certifications

Compensation is competitive and based on experience, certifications, prior work history and degree of off-season management and administration of the program assumed by the candidate.

Youth Sailing Senior Racing Instructor

CAYSP is looking for US Sailing Small Boat Instructors Level 2 or higher with prior teaching and racing experience to teach optimist and 420 racing.

Desired skills and experience include:

  • Current First Aid and CPR certifications
  • The ability to operate a motor boat safely, and ideally to drive and operate a boat trailer
  • Excellent communication and teaching skills
  • A passion for sailing and working with children
  • Maturity and responsibility
  • Availability mid-June to mid-August, Mon – Fri

First-year instructors with US Sailing Level 1 certification prior to June 2021 will be considered.
